- On the outskirts of Tamil Nadu, and a 90-minute drive away from Bengaluru, is a village called Shoolagiri that is known for its eco-friendly community called Sanctity Ferme. To promote their vision of a natural ecosystem, sustainable model homes were planned for the residents. Flintstone6 is first of many such eco-friendly prototypes, designed to blend with the scenic untouched landscapes of the region.
#GlassInDesign is a series presented by Saint Gobain (@SaintGobainIndiaGlassBusiness ) in association with #Buildofy
Design and construction during the thick of the pandemic posed a limitation that eventually became Flintstone6’s strength - the use of minimal materials all obtained from nature itself. It is part of the landscape itself. Each space in this 1935 sq.ft. home is connected to the outdoors, with natural cross ventilation and a dynamic palette of light and shadow patterns constant throughout the day.

The poured earth debris walls, inverted stair room, and washrooms inside the bedrooms are some key highlights of the project. Principal Architect walks us through the home, insightfully breaking down the material palette as well as the design challenges that give this sustainable home an edge over most in this country.

After watching quite a few videos in Buildofy, I wonder how people manage the mosquitoes problem when the houses are built as part of nature with massive doors and windows..
Dust too
@@NitishKumar-jk6ygheat, sunlight, insects, snakes too. I think the owners of these kind of houses use them as their vacation home.
Yes mosquitoes, insects are a problem in such areas u can't do much but has to live with it
What about humans?
Sanctity ferme from what I can understand is a sustainable community spread over 300 acres of land. I don’t think they have to worry about mosquitoes dust and garbage.
Absolutely stunning, for those who say it’s not practical it’s all about the brief and the client needs.
My kind of house great harmony with nature
A work of art, for sure.
How do you survive during thunderstorms, summer heat, How do you maintain such homes? No doubt the house is just amazing but living in such homes, is it practically possible?
Superbly designed and executed 👌love to know more about the details in terms of construction of debris wall and the way challenges tackle by you while executing the design on site with respecting existing trees and the boulders.
This house is so elegant design, before i don't look this.l love this eco friendly house.
it's so streamlined and chic but also earthy and cool! i love the casuarina roof! the glass bathroom! and the fact the he wanted to asses the building while living in it. commitment! sadly only rich clients can allow architects to use their spaces. not so crazy about the glass in the living area coz people might walk into the glass but there are ways around it like adding potted plants/sculptures in danger zones =] bravo!
Love the way you dressed like fred flintstone ❤
No word for your geniousness.
LOVELY HOUSE.......
Marvelous, one word describes it. So simple and so elegant.
Beautiful but wonder 🤔 how do you manage security matters?
👍🏾💐real flintstone era recreated, indian version 😁
You could also mention the cost involved in each of your projects. It would help people like us assess what could fit into our budget and reach out to you folks.

Great efforts done. Great ideas made real but the house is pretty impractical and what about those open stairs when it rain ? Where does the water goes ?
the best best best of everything. These kind of spaces are what I studied architecture for
I cant describe it in words, its simply outstanding, combining earth materials with amazing design, can you make one in Africa (Kenya).
Great creation beautifully blends with the surroundings!
Problems :
1. Safety
2. Glass roof heating issue, cracks
3. Open toilet.
4. Snakes
5. Mosquitoes.
6. Did i mention glass
Beautiful house uff!! Music video is stressful repetitive and daunting.
Heart n soul …. Simplicity
Beautiful, but glass roof & glass wall cn bel heat the house in summer?
One of a kind . Something from my imagination 🥰
Excellent and awesome…. Congratulations
Wow!!! This man has a great talent! 😇✨
Beautiful 😍😍😍😍😍.
Classic near to nature
trees will grow bigger in a few years and damage the entire wall and interior...... 🤔 how will thy manage this issue ? any thoughts
This is so good ! It feels like the home is part of the nature instead of the other way round . Wonder how much it would cost to build Home like this ..
?
Well crafted 💛😍
Good architecture
Different architecture. Bold experiment. Nice but not my cup.
Mosquitoes, security issues are a big problem with natural buildings😕
Masterpiece 👏
A complete home tour video bhe hona chaye last Mai ..
Horse 🐴🐎is searching for grass 🌱🍀😂
Would be helpful if you mentioned the price
Would there be any such properties which can be rented like Airbnb...mayb in Rajasthan
Oh my gosh !!! 🙇🏽
🌻
I want to open a playschool with similar concept...what will be the approximate cost...for 3000 sq ft construction
How much money it take for making this house ?

Good attempt with creativity. The house interior is drab with more glass work. Could have been made colourful. Not impressed, but good work.
😂😂
😂 a very personal opinion
@@ritaranee4787 yeah, it is very personal opinion. Some like colour and beauty. Some like and live ugly. Hope you are not suffering with SP😂😂😂😂
@n.r.rajendraprasad-ardrc5207 one man's ugly is another's beautiful like your choice of life partner isn't it ???
@@ritaranee4787 no I have not yet see your face. 😂🤣😂🤣😂 And I don't want to see. 🤦🤣😂🤣😂
@@prasad-5207 🥳🥳🥳🥳
Lovely house, but scared of wild animals n snakes lurking around. S
How to contact this person...
I have a farm some 10-15km frm this sanctity ferme..
Would love it if u can take up a project...share contact details please
Sustainability is all okay. But the Hippy guy needs to learn some safety while riding the bike...!!!
Highly impractical house for daily use - specially for families. Good for making a statement with the house.
It's like a joker house. Open toilets and glass roof 😂
maybe he doesn't want a family
@@CJ_222 that’s fine. But the statement is still true. Not for families. Simple.
Statement buildings add value to the region itself. Glass roof, as I see is mainly for porch. As for keeping out pest, there’re screens available. Probably just not shown here for aesthetic reasons.
@farmplantsandseeds basically not for 99.999% people. That’s what I said…
The design is beautiful but I believe its not practical for Indian environment concerning the problems with mosquitoes, snakes and other safety issues.
Who is the caveman roaming around? Rahul Gandhi?
😂
🤣
No it’s Modi Ji ..you haven’t watch him doing this kind of stuff 😂
man house is luxurious but evokes luxury as nature does, the building is not shouting for attention for gold or richness, I can see u have worked vinu daniel, man big up
How do you control bugs, mosquitos espcially?
It's extremely beautiful but I think the roof with glass shed is a heater for sure. Also the tree trunk has no space to grow out bcz of small cutout provided. But it's a learning curve for sure. You guys should also update on problems faced afterwards.
I was wondering abt the tree too
Yes
its a unique design and your choice to pick right soundtrack :) I was concerned about security aspects though. Cant someone just breaks the glass and get inside ?
You could just break the glass on any home, anywhere. People think that locking doors means you're safe but we all have windows right? One window, one rock.....
This is quite elegant but what about security
Simply fantastic! A one-of-a-kind home that needed a ton of courage and creativity both from the architect and the owner! I truly hope that this was not his destination, only a milestone in a long and interesting journey unfolding with time.
Impractical.
Looks like a museum
to you
This looks absolutely majestic..................But I am just wondering how does someone maintain such place on a day-to-day basis.
There would be so much dust coming in, not to mention so many insects just wandering into the house all the time.
This looks like more of a vacation stay rather than a proper house to stay in.
No cleaning, so that it's natural 😅
These houses usually cost a fortune to build. The architect's fee alone will be more than the cost of a normal house in the village. So it stands to reason that only very rich people can afford these houses and they usually hire an army of people to maintain the house or else it's all for nothing.
The Flintstone6 house is a commendable effort in sustainable architecture, aiming to seamlessly blend with the natural environment of Shoolagiri. However, extensive use of glass walls, while aesthetically pleasing and providing a strong connection with the outdoors, could lead to significant heat gain, especially in India's hot and humid climate. Despite the use of low-e glass to reduce heat gain, it might not be enough to counteract the intense sunlight. This could potentially make the house uncomfortably hot during certain times of the day or year. The greenhouse effect created by the glass could trap heat inside the building, making it hot and humid in the evenings, even with open windows for ventilation.
The use of earth and debris as building materials provides excellent thermal mass, which can help moderate indoor temperatures. However, these materials are not particularly good insulators. This means that while they can absorb and slowly release heat, they might not prevent heat from the outside from entering the house, or heat from the inside from escaping. This could result in a less than optimal thermal comfort inside the house.
Integrating existing trees into the design of the house is a wonderful way to preserve the natural environment. However, as trees grow and their roots expand over time, they could potentially affect the structural integrity of the house. Additionally, trees can attract insects and other pests, which could become a problem for the house, especially considering the extensive use of glass and the potential for open windows and doors for ventilation.
Some design decisions, such as the glass partitions between bathrooms and the lack of a central courtyard, were criticized. The glass partitions might not provide enough privacy, and there could be other ways to bring the view of the trees into the house, such as through the use of courtyards. The lack of a central courtyard could also impact the efficiency of ventilation in the house.
Despite these potential issues, it's important to note that the Flintstone6 house is a prototype and a stepping stone to new projects. The embodied energy of the house is likely very low due to the use of materials from the surroundings, including the glass. However, the design could benefit from further consideration of thermal comfort and ventilation, as well as the long-term implications of integrating trees into the structure of the house.
Where is solar power plant ? And Where is rain water reserve?
The use of’ glass made it loose its charm poor thinking on behalf of archeologist
I wonder that if in rainy season the home could be filled with water every where!! Coz there is jo proper roof.
Who is the guy wearing carpet?
I admire the beautiful build and the courage that ot takes to do something like this, but If women and children are going to live in there, I am afraid its not safe enough.
stayed here, cannot afford to stay during summer is like an oven inside
The roof is glass; that will cook the interior.
😂
Just amazing! Lovely open design. No safety grills or curtains to impede the view. Absolutely stunning!
No safety grills or curtains true but they are armed all the time...
Simply fantastic.... Excellent design... No comments on the Architectural front.... Almost 100% Eco Design with 0% Safety features.... And so many low level vents in an area filled with trees n shrubs is like giving an open invite to the reptiles like snakes, insects n etc... Just a honest review... But design n architecture is 💯....
Nice experiment . They could have used wood instead of glass , more natural stones instead of cement as much as possible . The furniture could been more rustic . Could have used a stone wash basin instead of ceramic .
Good design however glass captures and stores heat not sure if it’s a good idea
It's beautiful but what about security 🤔?
Haha yes Flintstones is my favourite show in cartoon by the way all of the construction was so natural and feel to grow inside but what about privacy and what if burglers break into it ..theft of privacy ?
This house looks extremely uncomfortable for a lot of reasons.
Mainly heat. These glass walls don't make any sense in a tropical country like ours.
How to clean the huge amount of bird shit that will fall on these glass walls?
Also who is the guy wearing bed sheet and walking in the middle?
semi-open toilet in India…..comeon!!!….even after “Swacch Bharat Abhigyan”???…..😬🤣
It's beautiful and yes impractical for those that only see cookie cutter housing as a way to building homes
While in rainy season staircase is safe to protect house from water
Takes back to Indus Valley civilisation 😅
Beautifully designed. Afgani's traditional touches are able to see. African and gulf traditional blend works well. Concept is not living in home, living with nature without disturbing environment and make comforts for living within the place. Great... Have to congratulate the house owner for approving his imagination comes live. 👌👏👏👏
Lol. Afghan, arab models & merging with the nature. they are opposites to each other. In arab deserts, you can not live any close to nature :-)
one of my fav homes ,something like this would be very intresting ,especially the glass works and the earthen materials
My heart just melted when I saw the stairs merging with the kitchen top...❤
Amazing Job!!! Congratulations. ..Creative thought process
When I built my house I will definitely take inspiration from this house. It's a beautiful mix bw nature and Egyptian/north African style architecture and eco friendly.
Loved it brother, fell in loved with your plan and designing ❤
I think a glass roof would make the inside of the house very hot!
is that dulquer from charlie dfxvk
Beautifully built a heaven on earth. Appreciate the idea and efforts in bringing this up.
What about the security of this house?
I wonder if they could give a price bracket for these kind of homes if not the exact price
I want an earthen home. It's natural and beautiful. These structures are no longer mud and stick holes of the past but gorgeous modern buildings. Combining ancient art and modern beauty.
Agree. I love how it blends naturally into the background.
PLAIN & SIMPLE?! THE WHOLE HOUS IS MY DREAM ITS SO BEAUTIFUL!
What about privacy and security? How have you planned to resolve these?
So in love with it! Beautiful house for a single person or a couple. I wish we could see more on how you sealed the outside literally coming inside hehehe.... bugs etc. I know you did it.. I just wish you had shown us! hahaha! Love it!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love sustainable homes and I want to make one. But after watching buildofy videos and the cost of the project. I just realised why sustainable homes are so expensive.
Safety is a challenge
Im wondering about birds crashing on to the glass walls. It happens with houses built with too many high glass walls/windows. Im speaking from experience.
Im also wondering about the heat during summer with that almost see-through roofing. Pls enlighten me.
Glass ceiling is it sustainable? Wont it inputs more heat. Simple clay tile roof or mud roofing could have been achieved. Anyways appreciate the idea of planning along with trees and walls made up of debris.
Wow! Its amazing. Just for my knowledge how much would this cost in general?
Praiseworthy experiment.... new concept, new idea executed.
